My criticisms of Durbin have nothing to do with either Tourette's or Aspbergers, I have a degree in Psychology, so I'm sympathetic to people with both of those disorders.. (this is neither here nor there, but I actually think his facial tick is adorable- it reminds me of John Krasinski's look at the camera when he is making a point on The Office -- I apologize if that is insensitive, it's just something I noticed).... the reason I don't like him has nothing to do with ticks or over-stimulation / shyness / awkwardness -- it has to do with him whining like a little baby over 16 year olds getting to have their parents supervise them. But, you are right-- he has done tremendously well so far and I give him great respect for handling his symptoms on and off camera. Now he just needs to grow up!Maria Sainthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02856016869543518448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422848818066529235.post-46731293142004808702011-02-18T21:47:07.130-08:002011-02-18T21:47:07.130-08:00One thing to remember about Durbin is that he has ...One thing to remember about Durbin is that he has Tourette's and is an Aspie (Asperger's Syndrome). Both of those affect his social relationships and how he expresses himself under pressure (and lack of sleep in this case). He is doing amazingly well so far dealing with his disorders. In fact, I blame the producers for this. And if they somehow use this to make him look bad (his natural reactions that are not natural for the rest of us) - then they really are completely immoral bastards. The DomestiChickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16688085173101677808noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422848818066529235.post-82158960245013752672011-02-17T12:05:32.104-08:002011-02-17T12:05:32.104-08:00Oh feel free to disagree any time! As for the judges-- I wasn't upset because I thought they SHOULD make people fearful-- I just think if they should waste our time with talking, it should be either funny or interesting-- and it's neither. At least Simon (although a horrible person) was entertaining!!! I could do completely without the judges, at this point, frankly. Well... Steven Tyler has his moments! ;)Maria Sainthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02856016869543518448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422848818066529235.post-30191904228557219012011-02-17T10:21:28.911-08:002011-02-17T10:21:28.911-08:00Oh one last thing. First, they shouldn't need to be told how important this is.
Second, you infer that Simon's angle of making everyone fearful before, and as they, perform was better. I disagree, this group is less intimidating but the auditioners already have enough stress, the kind of thing Simon used to do was narcissistic and self serving. I think a more laid back panel of judges is inducive to better performances.
Just my two cents.
love the blog Maria.JDeSabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15323698347440536524noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3422848818066529235.post-89418036390274195282011-02-17T10:18:18.808-08:002011-02-17T10:18:18.808-08:00quick thoughts:

You have one night to put on a great audition with people you don't know. Don't waste your time hovering over 15 year olds practicing and passing judgement. Very uncool.
Clint. Well, it's obvious.

Pia was my favorite performance of the night.

Jacee is, and will continue to be, a favorite. A great attitude and a good voice.

Emma (young girl with platinum hair) really had no shot backing up Durbin. I think she was cute and should have been in an all girl group. No harm, she wasn't lasting long.

Tonight, with 100 contestants left, I think they'll pen them up in 5 rooms of 20 each. They'll pick 3 and let two go. they're getting down to 60 tonight. Then it's off to Vegas where they will sing Beatles songs. I think in groups again. Next thursday night (Feb 24) they will unveil the final 20. We may be voting as early as next wednesday night. If anyone else remembers what the setup is for this year I'd be happy to learn.JDeSabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15323698347440536524noreply@blogger.com
